Special Economic Zones in Caribbean
The Caribbean is a booming place for SEZs. From the huge, unique zones like Cuba's Mariel to the many standard exporting zones of the Dominican Republic, they come in many shapes and sizes, and often very different management strategies.
Caribbean SEZs are full of surprises. From Jamaica's Montego Bay Free Zone founded in 1985 for warehousing and clothing production: labor-intensive industries best for those short on capital., which was entirely transformed when it was upgraded to have state-of-the-art hardware and next-level Internet speeds, to Mariel, Communist Cuba's 465 square-kilometer SEZ. There's many others to see, such as those 84 in the Dominican Republic....
